Sluis Cigar Machinery B.V. is one of the main suppliers of new, reconditioned and used machinery and parts to the cigar industry.

The software engineers of SCM docked into our internet database with their machine control software to monitor the performance of tobacco processing machines. All parameters for a real-time O.E.E. (Overall Equipment Efficiency) are uploaded to the internet based Sense database. Every second of downtime is stored into the downtime management information system known as S&S MIS. With this technology SCM can now monitor all their machines and processes world wide in real-time. All information is on-demand available.

Nedmag Industries is a world leading producer of Magnesium Oxide, Magnesium Chloride, Magnesium Hydroxide and Calsium Chloride. Products used in the cement and steel industry, textile finishing, catalyst production and many other applications.

For this company S&S Systems designed the concept of the TagToolBox. A web based add-on for the S&S MIS to dynamically define downtime.

To prove this concept workable, S&S Systems did some on-site load testing on the SCADA servers to measure CPU load and LAN load while reading tag values via an OPC connection.

Downtime reduction, process visualization, WebSCADA, process historian and system integration.

The main distribution center for the BeNeLux of Schneider-Electric boosts processing capacity. A system integration assignement for S&S Systems. The warehouse visualisation and logging system will monitor all PLC register activities, import source data from the SAP ordering system and combine these data with all scanning devices real time. The WebSCADA system can 'replay' all belt activities from last year, while production is boosted by real-time progress graphs and downtime will be reduced to a minimum by the S&S MIS system.

Implementation of the first WEB BASED S&S MIS version 3. Interlinked with Bühler SCADA system, the GRENCO process computers and the NORIT wastewater purification system. This system is expanded with modules for feedback to operators, the logs for the shifts and modules for action lists to manage running optimization projects. A complete management information system for practical operational information.

Producer of industrial glues (e.g. paper -and (solid) board industries). Digitalization of process throughput times from paper archives via a data-entry project in India. With statistical process control and simulation we derived realistic possible process throughput times by optimization of process control. In combination with separation of core tasks from secondary tasks more than 30% production capacity was released. Together with the financial reports, this report led to a new investment budget.

Industrial Data Acquisition System "Sense©"

The complete design and realization of a data-acquisition system and visualization tools. Based on a factory wide RS-485 bus. The only non-FIBREGLASS system that can cope with extreme disturbance from electromagnetic interference. The system is run-time expandable and modifiable. All warnings are done by e-mail and are voice supported in the operator room (OPERATOR’S remark: "I feel like captain Kirk."). Web based clients visualize the situation at the shop floor real-time. In addition we converted the Token-Ring network into an Ethernet.

Downtime reduction and process optimization

Single registration module of S&S MIS as special downtime registration module implemented on the high speed sheeter PASABAN 5. This module was linked to the Oracle Process Database and the process computers to automatically monitor downtime. In addition the modules delivered real-time downtime reports onto a HTML intranet. These reports are accessible through a calendar system (Intranet). Also a complete Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) index was programmed to provide daily updates of the machines performance. These measures led to a considerable increase of machine availability and production capacity.

From zero on, development of a wastewater purification installation, controlled and monitored by an Industrial Personal Computer. Development of a client-server SCADA system with data logging and acid-base control. Due to buffering properties of the wastewater a revolutionary control system was developed mimicking human control behaviour. This control system is called: Ad-AnticiCon (Advanced Anticipating Controller). We also solved many problems with data transport due to electromagnetic induction (EMI).

Complete implementation of S&S MIS version 2 for two factories and three solid board mills. With ERP system integrated production registration at the mills. Automation and optimization of the production administration. Automated assignment of process failures and production stand stills to the production run combinations of the mills. Considerable downtime reduction realized. For a single machine we measured the highest uptime ever for these kind of machines.
